The Mindfulness Paintings Blog will explore creative meditation exercises, mindfulness artwork and mindfulness art activities. Please share your thoughts, ideas and experiences as we journey towards being more mindful as we create. This is a safe place for the inner artist to share, notice and grow in mindfulness.

I am mindful of the fact that I am not mindful today. I’m feeling pretty anxious and disconnected. I’m feeling lost. I’ve got to make some good choices to settle myself down. I’m working on my mind right now: the tape that’s playing in my head. I’m telling it to slow down, and I’m telling it I’m going to be OK. There’s a lot going on, so my head is swimming with voices. Not audible ones. Just those quiet whispers that we tend to give too little attention. They are insidious. I must find a way to silence them.
These two paintings will be my silencers. I am working back and forth between them. It’s a good day for two painting distractions instead of one. This is a great opportunity to change the narrative inside my head. Now, it will be of colors, shapes, and memories. I will hear old stories, consider new hopes and dreams, and sense the voices of color. This is how I will get my mind back. I will lasso it with my creative process, and I will make it mine again. Once again, I will be mindful of today. I will find my way back to the “Right Now” with my canvas and a paintbrush.
Art making is powerful stuff. Creative process can help us stay in the present moment. It can help us to stay grounded in the truth of what’s happening around us. Fear, worry, and rumination can be silenced through the simple act of making some creative decisions. What will you make today? How can creating help you find your way back to you?
