Simple, Mindful Awareness

October 6, 2025

Written by: mindfulnesspaintings

Simple, mindful awareness is the invitation within Crows or No Crows. This painting was born from a place of color, play, and presence. Leaning against a rocking chair on my porch, its bold stripes, bright florals, and swirling patterns invite me—and anyone who looks—to pause. To breathe. To notice.

Simple, mindful awareness often begins with simple noticing: the way orange collides with purple, how black birds perch among blossoms, or the spiral that leads the eye inward and outward again. In this painting, each shape and hue becomes a reminder that stillness is found in attention. When I give myself fully to the act of painting, or to the act of seeing, I am practicing mindfulness.

And then there is my dog, peeking from the window in the background. Always watching, always present, he is my muse. His quiet gaze reminds me that mindfulness isn’t only about meditating or breathing deeply—it’s about being attuned to the moment, to what is right in front of me. He sees without judgment. He notices. He simply is. That, too, is a lesson in art and in life.

This piece, like simple, mindful awareness itself, is a practice of balance: between bold and delicate, between the crows and the flowers, between what is seen and what is felt. And much like my dog keeping silent vigil from the window, the painting waits patiently for the viewer to settle into the moment and truly see.

Art, at its best, doesn’t just decorate a space. It calls us into simple, mindful awareness. Crows or No Crows is my invitation to stop, look, and rest in the now—guided, always, by the watchful eyes of my muse.
