I have so many exciting ideas for things to create that it’s difficult to choose. Sometimes, I think that I should only go in one direction, but today I am asking myself, “Why Choose?” I took this art techniques class on using a Gelli Plate. I love making collages with this simple printmaking plate. I also love putting the collages I create inside my paintings. I can create my own papers, with my own patterns, so that everything I use to create my work is original. The exciting think about a Gelli Plate is that anyone can make satisfying art with it. You don’t need to have advanced drawing or painting skills. A simple sense of color and design can bring you a long way. YouTube is loaded with videos on how to make and use a Gelli Plate. Jane Davies is one my favorite collage artists on YouTube who teaches viewers to use the “Gel Plate” to create visually pleasing collage papers. Here’s a link to one of her tutorials: https://youtu.be/oPJQsTpivC0
Maybe you don’t even have one direction you want to take right now on your creative journey? This could be a great place to start. I’ll warn you, however, that this is a slippery slope. Before you know it you’ll find yourself asking the question, “Why Choose?” You’ll end up like me: so many choices, and so little time!!!!!
Why Choose, 2019
I love making collages with a simple printmaking plate called a Gelli Plate. I also love putting the collages I create inside my paintings. This is how I created "Why Choose."
