It’s important that we adjust our perspective right now. If we want to make the most of our present moment, we need to change our attitude and approach things a little bit differently. People are unhappy with the way things are. Everyone agrees that things aren’t normal. Even the luckiest have their world turned upside down by COVID. How do we face each day with a sense of hope and peace? This blog explores creativity’s power to turn our “Upside Downs” to “Right Side Ups.”
Painting is my attitude adjustment. Even on the most upside-down days, I can find a way to turn most things right side up. Creative process allows me to be mindful of the present moment, center myself, and find gratitude. In the peace of my art studio, I make a painting. I notice that I’m safe and warm. I get a chance to calm my thoughts. As I create, things shift and ease. I sense that everything is going to be OK. I face tomorrow with the knowledge that art making will be my refuge.
If you are having a lot of upside-down days, consider the power of creating: its power to turn things right side up. What can you try that might offer you a chance to slow down, reorient yourself, and find encouragement? Just a sketchbook and a pencil can offer you an opportunity to adjust your perspective and approach things with a little more peace and hope. I’m not suggesting that creativity makes everything better. I am saying that it might help you reach for a better tomorrow and make “Right Now” a place that’s a little easier to embrace.
If you discover that your creative process helps you turn your “Upside Downs” to “Right Side Ups,” share that process with others. Do it here or elsewhere. If we join together and share our creative process, even the darkest of days can offer others some hope to reach for.
